Message in a bottle

Send a message in a bottle to a kind stranger.

Write what you can't tell the people around you. The river carries it to someone awake, and if your words move them, they write back.

How it works

  1. Write it and let go

No name, no photo, no profile. A single line is enough. Seal it and set it on the water.

  2. A stranger picks it up

Someone awake reaches into the river and reads your bottle. Bottles nobody has answered yet reach readers first, so no one waits on the water for long.

  3. Read their reply

If your words move them, they write back. You see how many people read your bottle, and every reply.

  4. Come ashore, only if you both want to

Choose a reply and you can talk. Either of you can leave, block or report at any moment. If you both press keep, you stay in each other's nights, still under nicknames.

You can be the reader too

Some nights you have nothing to say, only room to listen. Pick a bottle up, read it slowly, and write back with care. A kind reply can help someone sleep a little easier.

What happens to your words

Bottles sink after some days, and words nobody keeps sink in time. A conversation is only saved if you both press keep.

When something you write sounds like you may be in danger, we hold it back from strangers and show you helplines instead.

Kind by design

Murlune is for adults 18 and older. Every bottle and reply can be reported or blocked, and reports are read by a person. Nothing moves closer unless you both choose it.

Other ways to begin

  • Burn a letter · Some words don't need an answer. They only need to leave you. Write to anyone, or to no one, watch the page turn to ash, and breathe out.
  • Lit windows · Late at night the city is full of lit windows, each one someone still awake. Turn yours on, and another night owl may knock.
